These race boards are made out of a hybrid carbon/divinycell core with 3 layers of carbon and a glass fibre layer top and bottom.
The boards feature a unique UPSY-DOZY where the tips of the boards ramp upwards to prevent nose-diving into the chop. The UPSY-DOZY'S also provide considerable more control at high speed. Because of these tips, we quote two board lengths, one being an effective length which is the length of board without the UPSY-DOZY, and an overall length including the UPSY-DOZY. The effective length should be used when selecting a board as this corresponds to sizes of traditional twin tip boards.
The other unique feature of the GAWA boards are that they only have heelside fin holes. Extensive testing at Pranburi beach identified this fin setup to be faster than 4 fins. In a slalom race there should be no toeside riding other than initiating the turn at the markers and having fins in the toeside rail only causes additional drag. Note: fin reinforcing is included in the toeside rail of the board if riders wish to use the board for toeside when not racing.
Used in Twintip racing series for youth Olympics and european slalom series.
UPEKSHA GAWA RACE BOARD carbon (used)
Starting January 20, 2018, all Gawa boards will be "clean skin” bases (no graphics), carbon finish only on the board base. These boards are race boards and although we liked having "UPEKSHA” and “UPSY DOZY” on the base, it has created countless problems in the board production.
We have checked with IKA and both "clean skin" and “UPEKSHA” bases are IKA approved for use in the YOG as there is no change in the board performance.
